7:00 KEY NOTE SPEAKER PRESENTATION- Jon Hawk Stravers brings a program of stories and music from the river.  As a New Age River Rat Jon has been working on and writing music about the Mississippi River for the past 30 years.
 
He currently serves as the Research and Field Trip Coordinator for Audubon s Mississippi River Initiative, and has been working on inventory and monitoring projects involving Red-shouldered Hawks.
 
Jon has operated an autumn raptor banding station and captured migrating raptors that were previously banded in Alaska, Greenland, and Mexico, and birds that he has banded have been recovered in Costa Rica and in areas around the Southern and Midwestern United States.
 
He is Co-author of the recently published book Sylvan T. Runkel, Citizen of the Natural World a biography of one of Iowa s most influential conservationists

MUSHROOMING, WILDFLOWER, & BIRDING HIKE

Guide, Kelly Larson - an avid outdoors woman, skilled at finding the tasty Morell, and other mushrooms and edibles of the Minnesota woods.  Kelly will point out blooming wildflowers and other flora, while also identifying and helping you locate bird species along the way.  Bring a basket or bag, small soft paint brush, and small paring knife.  Some supplies will be available.  Learn how to properly remove mushrooms from the wild and have an enjoyable and educational morning.  Meet Kelly at the Park side lot at the Villa Maria Exit off Hwy 61 between Frontenac and Lake City, MN.
