My Grandfather was John Jacobs, he was once the County Sheriff of Wabasha County. I have been told that people would get arrested just to eat some of my grandmother's (Martha Jacobs) cooking. I spent all of my summers in Wabasha or Red Wing. Your part of the world truly is God's Country. Anytime I need a break from reality, I just go to the banks of the Mississippi and let myself soar with the eagles.

Congratulations on building a site that will give visitors access to "real America." I grew up in Red Wing and have travelled a lot -- and always wondered why "travel" seems to mean "go to a big city that is pretty much like all big cities." The Mississippi Valley Lake Pepin is so lovely, the people are so kind and unhurried, and there is so much to do (in your own sweet time.) I like to log on to your site as a reminder that calm places still exist. . . a bit of Red Wing in the middle of Washington, DC. Too bad your visitors can't drop by for apple pie at my Mom's . . .don't tell Mom I said this, but the orchards' pies are almost as good as hers.

so yeah lake pepin i grew up with and made many memories but what about the history of the area - like any area history has made the place and the french the spanish, the traders, the massacre on the shore of pepin - what about the barges - i cannot cannot find anyinformation at all satisfy my curiosity about the barges that ply the waters on lake pepin--lock and dam #4 in alma that puts those behemoths through and onto the lake--how many miles do they travel from st paul - to st louis? all the way to the gulf? nobody seems to be able to tell me anything about THE BARGES OF THE MISSISSIPPI. CAN'T EVEN FIND BOOKS THAT SPECIFICALLY DEAL WITH B A R G E S OF THE MISSISSIPPI --WHO KNOWS?

I lived in Frontenac from 1946-1965) with a couple years off in between in Red Wing and Salt Lake City. My parents were Ed and Martha Possehland my dad worked at Red Wing Shoe Co. Mom still lives in Red Wing now, but I remeber all of my Frontenac days, especially ice skating over Lake Pepin to Maiden Rock - and being married in the Frontenac Episcopal church in 1967. We still get back to Frontenac, how much times have changed but Old Frontenac is still much the same.

Pretty good site. You should encourage the individual B&B, motels, etc., to add e-mail, a small picture, room rates. Maybe on go-getter rents/buys a camera, and does the circuit? Was looking for a long week-end getaway. One site, SeaWing had good pictures, rates, etc, but local theatre group calendar only current month. Good job Red Gables Inn, but check spelling. I liked your room pictures. Used e-mails where available, and printed out directory. Convince the non e-mail sites, this is spontaneous media, and I and others may not actually get to calling even if I printed it.
